How to Turn One Acquisition Into Many

Start from the start

Welcome to the JackQuisitions newsletter,

Buying one business is an accomplishment, but turning that first acquisition into a platform that consistently acquires more is how real wealth gets built.

This week, I want to break down the systems, leadership, and mindset shifts that make one acquisition the foundation for many. You can also watch this podcast episode for all my thoughts.

Smarter Staffing. Bigger Capacity.

Growing your business doesn't always mean hiring more locally. Quick Staffers helps HVAC, plumbing, and electrical companies build hybrid teams with trained remote professionals who work inside your systems, follow your processes, and support your customers.

With Quick Staffers, you can:

  • Reduce overhead with experienced remote CSRs, dispatchers, and administrative staff.

  • Improve response times and keep more calls from slipping through the cracks.

  • Free up your local team to focus on serving customers and growing the business.

Build a more efficient operation without sacrificing service quality.

Ready For Your Next Acquisition?

Check out these acquisition opportunities that caught my eye this week:

  • Phoenix, AZ HVAC company with $500K in annual revenue, 5 service trucks, 7 employees, $300K in included assets, an established customer base, memberships, and awarded bids, offered for $400K.

  • Ventura County, CA property restoration company generating $8.1M in annual revenue, backed by an experienced management team, strong insurance referral relationships, a 25,000-square-foot facility, and significant growth potential, offered for $6M.

  • Maryland-based landscaping and outdoor living company generating $1.8M in annual revenue with $477K cash flow, 14 full-time employees, nearly $1M in equipment and vehicles, recurring maintenance revenue, and a strong luxury residential client base, offered for $1.295M.

Your First Deal Is Just the Beginning

The biggest misconception about buying a business is that the first acquisition is the finish line.

It isn't.

The first acquisition is simply the foundation for everything that comes next.

One of the biggest advantages of buying a home service business through an SBA 7(a) loan is that it gives you leverage. Instead of spending decades climbing the corporate ladder and investing a portion of your paycheck every month, you're putting capital behind an operating business that can grow, generate cash flow, and create equity at the same time.

But here's the catch: this only works if you're a great operator.

If you can improve margins, grow revenue, and build a stronger business, the first acquisition creates opportunities the average investor never has access to. As the business pays down debt and generates cash, you can use that momentum to acquire another company in the same trade. Then another. That's how small businesses become regional platforms.

The playbook is surprisingly straightforward:

  • Buy a healthy home service business with SBA financing.

  • Improve operations and grow EBITDA.

  • Use cash flow and equity to acquire another company.

  • Repeat the process while integrating each acquisition into a larger platform.

  • Eventually sell a much larger business at a premium valuation.

None of this is easy. SBA loans carry real risk, and many buyers pledge personal assets as collateral. If you can't operate the business successfully, the downside is significant.

But for the right person, that's exactly why the opportunity exists.

Most people are optimizing for security. They're working toward the next promotion, the next raise, and hoping time does the heavy lifting.

Business buyers are optimizing for leverage.

One well-run acquisition can become two. Two can become five. And over time, what started as a single purchase can become the foundation of generational wealth.

My Final Thoughts

The first acquisition is the vehicle that gives you the cash flow, equity, and experience to keep buying, keep growing, and ultimately build something far bigger than a single business.

Happy hunting,
